The population as of July 1, 2024 was listed as 5,250.  Glenwood has the motto of “The best of both worlds”, meaning it has a small town feel and look, but offers easy access to the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area.  Many residents of the Glenwood community drive daily into the metro for employment.  

Glenwood Lake Park has a lake to enjoy fishing, walking paths, playgrounds, and the Davies amphitheater that has weekly events during the summer months which provides affordable, live family entertainment during the summer months.   Campsites with hookups are also available, along with a Disc Golf Course that is situated on over 6 miles of walking trails in the park.

The Mills County Historical Museum is located at Glenwood Lake Park.  Per the Facebook page, this  museum promotes understanding of and respect for the history of the peoples and cultures of Mills County through education, stewardship of collections, and public outreach.

Glenwood has Pickleball Courts located at 208 S Vine Street that are open for public use along with tennis courts located at the High School.  At the Sharp street baseball/softball complex another set of tennis courts and a sand volleyball court can be found. 

If you’re looking for a public golf course, Glenwood has one for you, located at 57073 240th Street.  The course is a par 35, nine-hole. Thomas Davis designed the course with bent grass greens and bluegrass fairways. From the front tees it is 2564 yards, 33.5 rating, and 120 slope, and from the back tees it is 2776 yards, 34.5 rating, and 123 slope, as provided by the USGA.

The Glenwood Archaeological State Preserve located at 59069 Levi Road, is Iowa’s 96th dedicated preserve. There are 107 recorded archaeological sites on the property which covers 906 acres of woodlands, reconstructed prairie sites, crop fields, hay fields and a fishing pond.  A 2.5 mile paved trail is located in the Foothills area of the park, while visitors will find mowed paths throughout the property. This is a great year-round recreation property for hikers, bikers, trail runners, nature enthusiasts and people of all ages.    

Kenny’s Woods is a 20 acre woodland that was donated to the Conservation Board in 2012 located at 255th Street and Jagger Road.

There are numerous unique shops and stores for you in Glenwood to shop, eat and drink. 

You can enjoy a Saturday night movie at the Rex Theater with rock bottom prices for admission and snacks. The Rex Theater built in 1891 is on the North side of the square. Originally, serving as an Opera House, it has been showing films since 1908.  It is considered to be one of the longest running exhibitors of film at the same location in the world.
